Why Build the MS Bridge?

The MS Bridge connects multiple sclerosis patients in financial need to medications and other resources that could improve or help maintain a high quality of life as well as to support MS research and clinical practices.

MS is an extremely debilitating disease. Currently there is no cure for MS, however, there are a number of medications available that help control the symptoms and allow patients to live a more normal life. The cost of these medications is extremely high, and many patients are unable to afford the medicines that can improve their quality of life.

“As the only center in Oklahoma dedicated to fighting MS, it is our responsibility to help patients find resources to help control their symptoms. Mr. Morris’ vision is shared by all of us at the MS Center of Excellence at OMRF and we hope to continue the fight against MS and offer assistance to those in need” Gabriel Pardo, MD, Director of the MS Center of Excellence at OMRF.

The MS Bridge is  solely focused on fundraising to raise the awareness of the effects of multiple sclerosis. MS is most common in people ages 25-50; most patients are in the midst of raising a family and have professional responsibilities. Many times patients are forced to leave work, leaving a spouse or another family member to pay the bills and medical expenses. That’s where MS Bridge comes in; we strive to help families in need and ease some of the financial burdens associated with MS treatments.

“Each month I spend on average $2300 out of pocket on medications to control my symptoms. Insurance helps, but even with assistance the cost is overwhelming. The drugs and other treatments have stalled my disease and I can’t imagine my life without them. This is the only way I can function.” Lori Evans, MS Patient, MS Center of Excellence.
